Netsafety week 2021
13 August 2021
Westland District Council was proud to be one of the supporters of the inaugural Netsafety Week 2021 with organisations, charities and schools sharing information to help keep New Zealander’s safe online. Netsafety Week was designed to Make Aotearoa Safer Online. It encouraged the community to kōrero about the ways to keep internet spaces safer and included tips to help people minimise their own risks.
Netsafe is there every day to assist anyone who gets caught up in an online scam, experiences bullying online and to educate young people and their families about online safety.
To celebrate the success of the first Netsafety Week, Netsafe are running competitions for Primary and Secondary students to encourage keeping safety in mind when going on the internet.
Primary Schools: This competition is solely for primary school students. Students can enter on their own or whole class effort representing their school. Design your school’s online safety mascot and connect it to the message, “We can all be safer online with…”
Secondary – Tiktok: The competition is for people aged between 13 -20 years. Overlay your favourite dance/song with your best online safety tips (no restrictions just avoid songs with swear words), follow and tag @netsafenz and #netsafetywk21 and #onlinesafety.
Find out more about the competitions on Netsafe’s website.
