Fox Glacier and Haast Wastewater Treatment Plants – Upgrades

21 June 2021

As part of the central government’s 3 waters reforms funding for infrastructure projects, Council has purchased two septage receiver units for installation at the Fox Glacier and Haast wastewater treatment plants.

These units have the capability of containing septage discharged from sucker trucks in a below-ground tank, which is then pumped to the treatment plant in a controlled manner to prevent adverse effects on the biology of the ponds. The volume discharged is logged electronically for billing purposes and will provide operations staff with data to manage the ponds more effectively.

Aeration units (pictured) have also been purchased for the Fox Glacier and Haast wastewater treatment plants to provide supplementary oxygen to maintain the biological health of the ponds including odour reduction.
