Camp Creek Shelter rebuild

Council was very disappointed in the senseless vandalism that destroyed the Camp Creek shelter on the West Coast Wilderness Trail in February. However, events such as this show just how much importance the community places on this fantastic asset. Staff and the Trail Trustees were very grateful to receive offers of assistance from the community to rebuild the shelter. Not only does this prove the value of the asset but it saves ratepayers money!

We would like to acknowledge the contribution of local builder Matt Fairmaid and local painter Chris Steel, who donated their time in making repairs to the shelter over the past few weeks. The Hokitika Colour Centre kindly donated the paint. The new shelter looks fantastic and our volunteers can be proud of their effort.

We are pleased to report that the people who vandalised the Camp Creek Shelter have been identified by Police and appeared in Court. Council will be seeking reparation for the damage caused.
