The Summer Reading Challenge is back at the Library for the 2021 summer and there’s still time to enter. Complete a line of BINGO and enter to win a bundle of books. Each child who completes the challenge receives a new book.

How to get your waste sorted

The 2021 Kerbside Rubbish and Recycling schedule is available on our website. Keep a copy handy so that you know which bin to put out on what day.

Hokitika Beach 27 - 31 January 2021

Entrants of any age and skill are invited to join in creating sculptures from driftwood and any materials found at the beach. This year there are generous prizes for nine different categories. The registration caravan will be at the beachfront from 9 am, Wednesday 27 January, with public choice voting beginning on Friday 29 January. If want to learn ways to create a piece, a Natural Fixings workshop will be held on Thursday 28 January from 10 am – 12 pm.
Bring your family and friends to view the works as they’re created through the week and then join the artists and organisers on Sunday 31 January for Red Moki’s Treasure Hunt at 1 pm and the prizegiving at 2 pm.

Open until the end of Waitangi weekend

Hokitika Illuminated has briefly returned to the Carnegie Gallery before the Museum is closed for earthquake strengthening. The free exhibition is open from Monday – Thursday, 10 am – 4 pm until 8 February 2021.
Pop in to see the exhibition at 17 Hamilton Street, Hokitika.

The day begins with a Powhiri at 10.30 am followed by family friendly activities, kai and guest speakers who will discuss Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the history of Te Tai Poutini from a Poutini Nga Tahu perspective.
Kai – food is an important part of the Pōwhiri process and to assist us with catering please register your interest on Facebook or contact waitangiday2021@westlanddc.govt.nz.
